Nintendo
Entertainment System (also known as NES or in Japan known as
"FAMICOM") 5 is Nintendo's second desktop console, and is an
eight-bit game console belonging to the third generation in the video game
industry. It was released by Nintendo in North America, Europe and
Australia between 1985 and 1987.


What started as Famicom (Family Computer) in Japan was the Nintendo Entertainment System in the West, which challenged experts and sold by the millions. Players were quick to watch and play classics like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Excitebike, games that were way above games for other home consoles. This fantastic controller characterized by its simplicity had a control panel in the shape of a cross, two round buttons for the thumb and two identical 'Start' and 'Select' buttons. The basic design of the NES controller became industry standard and its influence is still noticeable.
The original Famicom model had two game controls connected to the rear. The second
control lacked the START and SELECT buttons, although it had a small
microphone. However, it is known with certainty that few games made use of this
functionality. Similarly, the A and B buttons on the first Famicom units were
square in shape.49 Later, they would have to adopt a circular shape after the
fact that the square buttons became trapped in the control housing when pressed

while a game was running.
